Isofair

Common use

Isofair is a prescribed medicine primarily used to manage severe acne like nodular or conglobate acne, or acne which is at a risk of causing permanent scarring that has not responded well to other treatments. This medication is part of the retinoid class of medicines, which are powerful derivatives of vitamin A. In addition to its primary use, it helps reduce the skin's production of sebum - an oily substance that can clog pores and cause acne breakouts. By reducing sebum production, this medicine makes the skin less hospitable for acne-causing bacteria, leading to clearer skin and preventing new acne lesions from forming.

Dosage and direction

Swallow the capsule whole, without breaking or chewing it. Always take the capsule with food, as it can boost the absorption of isotretinoin. Do not exceed the dose recommended by your doctor. Ensure you consult your doctor before adjusting your dosage or stopping the medication.

Precautions

Liver Disease: Individuals with liver disease should use this medicine cautiously as it could potentially worsen their condition.
Mental health issues: There's a risk that isotretinoin can cause changes in mood and behaviour. If you've previously suffered from depression or other mental health issues, it is essential to discuss this with your doctor before starting Isofair.

Contraindications

Isofair is contraindicated during pregnancy. If you are pregnant or planning to conceive, discuss it with your doctor before starting this medication.
Isofair is contraindicated for breastfeeding women. Discuss it with your doctor if you are breastfeeding before starting this medication.
As this medicine may impact blood glucose levels, it's advisable to limit alcohol consumption while taking Isofair.
Avoid using it if you're allergic to isotretinoin or any other ingredients in Isofair. Discuss any allergies with your doctor before starting this medicine.
Isofair isn't recommended for use in children under the age of 18 years.

Possible side effect

Taking Isofair may lead to the following common side effects: Dry, peeling skin; Itchy or red skin; Dry, irritated eyes; Joint and muscle aches; Skin thinning; Nosebleeds.

Drug interaction

Tetracycline Antibiotics: These antibiotics, like doxycycline and minocycline, interact with Isofair. Their combined use may increase the risk of a condition called pseudotumor cerebri, which results in high pressure in the fluid around the brain.
Vitamin A Supplements: Supplements containing vitamin A can interact with Isofair, leading to increased side effects such as dry skin, chapped lips, and vision problems due to vitamin A overdose.

Missed dose

If you forget to take an Isofair at your usual time, take it as soon as you remember. But if it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Never double up on doses without talking to your doctor.

Overdose

If you accidentally take more Isofair than prescribed, you might experience symptoms like severe headache, nausea or vomiting, drowsiness, irritability and itching. If this happens, inform your doctor right away.

Storage

Keep your Isofair in the original packaging. Store at room temperature, ideally between 15 and 30°C. Avoid placing them in areas of high humidity, like the bathroom. Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
